Mass in D by Antonín Dvořák

On Saturday 27 November 2021 the Nijmeegs Studentenkoor Alphons Diepenbrock (NSKAD) will be performing again. On the programme is the Mass in D by Antonín Dvořák, which can be considered one of Dvořák’s great romantic works, and the Dona nobis pacem (Give us peace) by Pēteris Vasks. The concert, conducted by Gilles Michels, will take place in the Antonius van Paduakerk in Nijmegen.

Dvorák (1841 – 1904, born in Czech Republic) wrote the Mass in D at the request of an architect friend. Dvorák was inspired by the folk music of Moravia and Bohemia and by his religious background. Besides this heartwarming mass, the choir will also perform Dona nobis pacem by the Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks. Both choral works will be performed with organ accompaniment, which allows the emphasis to be placed on the choir and the singing. The choir is conducted by Gilles Michels and will be assisted by organist Jan Pieter Lanooy. The NSKAD consists of about 40 members who all have a click with classical music. The choir consists mainly of students, with a variety of backgrounds and studies.
